Last month, the City of East Point relocated many of their offices to Jefferson Station, a historic loft building developed by Kairos Development Corporation in downtown East Point. On Sept. 12, the City hosted an Open House for residents and city staff. East Point Mayor, the Honorable Joseph L. Macon and Crandall O. Jones, Interim City Manager of the City of East Point were among the staff and residents in attendance. The City of East Point now occupies over 23,900 square feet of office space in Jefferson Station, providing ease of access for city staff and residents, as well as streamlined processes for city services.

The following city offices are now located at Jefferson Station: Accounting/Cashier Office, Office of the City Clerk, Office of City Grants, Contracts and Procurement, Economic Development, Electric Utility Administration, (more…)

Most people don’t go throughout their day thinking about the overburdened social welfare system and the tons of kids that slip through the cracks and face very dangerous situations at home. But the Finance & Technology Director for Kairos, Amy Johnson, decided to be a friend and advocate for these children by volunteering as a CASA in Rockdale County. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate, and describes an ordinary citizen who is trained and then appointed by a judge to be the voice of one of these children. Amy Johnson and others like her typically only take on one case at a time, and commit to finding their child a safe and permanent home. Everyone from Karios would like to congratulate Amy, and thank her for doing something great for the children in Rockdale. In the photo is Amy Johnson with Georgia’s Attorney General, who spoke at the ceremony, and the Leadership Rockdale class facilitators. The fact that Amy took the time to attend all of the courses and meet all of the requirements to graduate shows the devotion and dedication Kairos employees have to their surrounding communities. Amy is now thoroughly involved in Rockdale and will contribute the knowledge gained to the bright future that she hopes the area will soon achieve. Leadership Rockdale is a series of six full-day sessions and one retreat. The idea behind this program is to increase knowledge and awareness of the community and its leaders. Many topics are discussed throughout the duration of the program, like the justice system, government, education, community wellness and industry. Once again congratulations to Amy and we are thrilled to see Kairos so involved!

While I am sure you have heard numerous reports about a declined real estate market, the Vinings real estate market has continued to produce hot sales numbers. Recently reported in an article in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, prices have jumped 57% in the Vinings area from last year and the number of homes sold increased by 22%. Great recognition must be given to Kairos Development as their community service efforts will be giving thanks to former US soldiers this June 14th by volunteering their office suites in Buggyworks to be used by Veterans Affairs (VA), a government organization aimed at providing care and support for veterans. Stand Down is an all day quarterly event beginning at 7 am that seeks out homeless veterans in order to help the former US soldiers rehabilitate their mental and emotional issues, as well as aids them in finding suitable housing. As more and more soldiers come back from war with health issues, VA’s programs are becoming of the utmost importance to repay the veterans for their service to our country. Kairos Development’s office building at Jefferson Stations is so appealing that the City of East Point is relocating several departments from their current offices to the new development Jefferson Station at Buggy Works. Over 23,900 square feet will be occupied by the City Clerk, Human Resources, Finance, Government Operations, Parks and Recreation, Planning and Zoning, Economic Development and Purchasing. Moving in on August 1st, these city offices will reside in Jefferson Station for at least five years. It’s a rather big honor for Kairos Development to have such support from the City in their development of the historic industrial district.
